Job Description: Sales & Marketing Engineer

Reports to: VP Sales & Marketing

Department: Sales & Marketing

Summary Statement

Provides sales & engineering support for JAL by interfacing with customers, analyzing their requirements, formulating solutions and preparing bids for management review that will contribute to the receipt and successful execution of transmission structures business.

Job Duties

  • Perform engineering functions which include: the design of structures, prototype development, structure testing and material and cost studies relative to assigned projects
  • Determine customer requirements and identify solutions through engineering innovation, scheduling, cost management and value added proposals
  • Prepare design calculations, cost estimation pages, and engineering packages for modeling
  • Use PLS and other software to assist customers
  • Work with Sales and Engineering to develop tactical plans and proposals/presentations for prospects
  • Collaborate, coordinate, manage and execute bid development and submittal with other JAL personnel and outside solution providers and vendors to prepare successful quotation submissions/proposals
  • Follow all jobs through to completion. Coordinate with relevant parties to address issues, solve problems and create a positive experience for the customer
  • Regularly contribute to tracking reports outlining status of prospects and orders
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Other duties as may be required.

 Work Environment & Conditions:

  • Office and field work required.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule and overtime as necessary to meet department, company, and customer objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • Civil engineering degree with current or future eligibility for licensing as a Professional Engineer; preference given to transmission tower industry experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • 5 years’ experience in the electric utility sector and/or structural steel design
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Professional independent worker with good organizational/follow-up skills
  • Proficient in MS Office products
  • PLS CADD experience would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Spanish would be an asset
  • Travel may be required up to 50%
  • Experience in ISO 9001, 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards
