Job Description: CNC Technician

Reports to: Department Manager

Department: Plant Maintenance

Pay Type: Non-Exempt Is eligible for overtime pay

Summary Statement

The industrial mechanic and CNC Technician shall ensure that all of the machines in the factory are operational and that preventative maintenance programs are followed. The ideal candidate has experience in repairing CNC Machines, Overhead Cranes, PLCs, and other equipment.

Job Duties

• Responsible for the safe and proper maintenance of all machinery and plant according to manufacturer’s requirements. Monitors performance of machinery and plant in order to minimize breakdowns
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on CNC processing lines, forge, press, cranes, generators, fans, pumps, compressors.
• Perform diagnostics on electronic systems, CNC controls, remote controls, sensors, encoders, inverters, servo motors/drives, lighting systems, scales, computers
• Perform diagnostics on electrical circuits, switch gear, motors, actuators, generators, compressors.
• Perform diagnostics on hydraulic/pneumatic systems, valves and mechanical controls
• Installs, maintains, dismantles, overhauls, and repairs machinery and equipment, such as overhead cranes, manipulators, shears, punches, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, and hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, working from layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in an industrial establishment, using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
• Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Moves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
• Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand tools and power tools.
• Aligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
• Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
• Ensures the availability of critical spare parts

 Experiential Requirements

• Should have six (6) years of industrial CNC, mechanical, & / or electrical maintenance experience and responsibilities related to the steel fabrication industry
• Should possess a strong technical background in general mechanical, electrical and electronics fields
• Requires in-depth knowledge of CNC processing lines, general fabrication machines, lifting and materials handling equipment. Knowledge of computer controlled environmentally clean galvanizing plants would be preferable
• Strong understanding of metric system and proven ability to work comfortably in metric
• Planning, assigning, and directing work
• Addressing complaints and resolving problems

 Educational, Professional, and Technical Requirements

• HS Degree; Technical or Vocational Training preferred
• Computer literacy
• Exceptional collaboration skills along with communication, problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations

 Physical Requirements of the Job

• Ability to read and write English fluently with demonstrated proficiency in grammar
• Walk, sit, stand, climb ladders and stairs frequently
• Lift up to 50 pounds

 Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment: exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise
